A short history of Kangra tea
Tea under the Dhauladhars since the 1850s.
Tea arrived in the Kangra Valley in the mid-nineteenth century, and by the late 1800s Kangra teas were winning medals in London and Amsterdam. The 1905 earthquake set the region back for decades, but its small gardens kept going.
Today Kangra is one of India's smallest and most distinctive tea regions: cool, high, slow-growing. The result is a gentler cup with a natural sweetness. That's where our story begins.
